One of the most important parts of any car is the tires. Inman’s Auto Rescue has a few tips on how to make sure you are driving on good tires:
- Inman’s Auto Rescue know that you should first check the wear on your tires. Is the wear even across the tire? If not any number of things could be wrong and you should take it to a tire specialist to help you determine what needs to be done.
- If your tires are worn evenly, there is one sure-fire way to see if evenly worn tires need to be replaced. Inman’s Auto Rescue recommends that all you need to check your tires is a penny. Insert the pain with Abe Lincoln’s head into the tread of the tire, insert as close to the center of the tire as possible.
◦ If you can see the top of Lincolns head or more of the penny, replace tires immediately.
◦ If you can see the Presidents hair – start saving and looking for tires.
◦ If you put the penny in so far that you can’t see any of his hair and you can see his forehead or less of the penny, you are in the clear.
- Check for dry rot (sidewall cracking). According to Inman’s Auto Rescue it should take a long time for dry rot to set in but to make sure you never experience it, Replace tires every 6-10 years whether the tread is worn or not.
- Inman’s Auto Rescue warns that bubbling or bulging on the tire can mean that internally the tire is broken or warped. If this is the case, a blowout can happen at any moment so be sure top take it to a professional right away for inspection.
